OCALA, Fla. – The IU Indy swim team took a select group to the Nationals Invitational Championships this week highlighted by Emmaleigh Zietlow lowering her program record in the 200 IM and Nathan Rariden earning a ninth-place finish in the 200 free.
The Jags took 12 student-athletes to Ocala, Florida with David Niemiec, Jack Gallob, Grayson Tidwell, Zach Drotar, Rariden, Ben Kimmel, Isaac Wilson, Hugo Arteaga, Addy Hirsbrunner, Lillian Brandt, Luca McGee and Zietlow all making the trip.
Rariden and Zietlow both earned top ten finishes, leading the Jags. Rariden took ninth in the 200 free with a time of 1:38.38. Zietlow also competed in the finals session of the 200 free, finishing in 13th with a time of 1:49.63. Zietlow earned her top ten finish in the 200 IM, finishing in tenth at 2:01.11.
David Niemiec (31st), Jack Gallob (34th) and Grayson Tidwell (44th) all swam in the men’s 50 back while Addy Hirbrunner took 45th in the women’s 50 back.
Hugo Arteaga (26th), Niemiec (30th) and Isaac Wilson (38th) all competed in the men’s 50 fly while Lillian Brandt took 32nd on the women’s side. Rariden (47th), Niemiec (55th) and Arteaga (57th) also swam in the men’s 50 free.
Rariden finished in 30th in the 500 free while Luca McGee too 52nd in the 50 breast. While Zietlow earned a top ten finish in the women’s 200 IM, Ben Kimmel (25th) and Tidwell (34th) swam in the men’s 200 IM.
The NICs conclude the swimming portion of the season for the Jags but IU Indy will have one diver still to compete at the NCAA Championships. Sebastian Otero is preparing for the Championships this week, March 19-22 in Federal Way, Washington.
