Reigning champion Rebel’s Romance joins the NTRA Top 10 after a dominant score in the Grade 1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont at the Big A on Sept. 27.
Now ranked eighth, the 7-year-old gelding was making his first race stateside since capturing the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar. The Godolphin homebred also won the Breeders’ Cup Turf in 2022 at Keeneland, and will attempt to win a third rendition at Del Mar on Nov. 1.
The Charlie Appleby trainee has won five of seven starts this year: the G1 Grosser Preis von Berlin in Germany, the G2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot, the G2 Yorkshire Cup Stakes in England, and the G3 H.H. The Amir Trophy in Saudi Arabia. He was third in the G1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.
G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes victor Antiquarian rejoins the leaderboard in the 10th spot after dropping to 11th last week. The Todd Pletcher-trained 4-year-old colt won an allowance in April before finishing second in the G3 Blame Stakes and the G2 Suburban Stakes.
Antiquarian is owned by Centennial Farms and will make his next start in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 1 at Del Mar.
No. 5 Thorpedo Anna is the only member of the leaderboard to run this weekend. The reigning Horse of the Year competes in the G1 Spinster on Oct. 5 at Keeneland.
Thus far in 2025, Thorpedo Anna has won the G1 Personal Ensign Stakes, the G1 Apple Blossom Handicap, the G2 Fleur de Lis Stakes, and the G2 Azeri Stakes. Her only loss was an 8 ½ lengths last in the G1 La Troienne, where she experienced significant bumping in the first turn.
Seventh on the leaderboard, the connections of Book’em Danno announced on Sept. 27 that the 4-year-old gelding would not run again this year, in part due to the “disgraceful” six-month suspension of his jockey, Paco Lopez.
In his five-race campaign, Book’em Danno won the G1 Forego Stakes, G2 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Stakes, G3 True North Stakes, and a handicap at Colonial Downs in March. He was fourth, beaten a neck, in a four-horse blanket finish in the G1 Churchill Downs Stakes, won by No. 3 Mindframe.
