Last Saturday's 150th Preakness Stakes was the final running at old Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Md. The middle jewel of the Triple Crown will move to Laurel Park for at least a year while Pimlico is demolished and rebuilt.
Meanwhile, Maryland's Department of General Services is hosting an online auction of items from the historic racetrack. While it began Saturday and ends on the evening of Friday, May 23, there are still a few gems to be found.
“We have things like benches that are original to Pimlico,” Assistant Secretary of Business Enterprise Administration Ronnie Dampier told Maryland Matters. “We have brass-finish hand railings, we have pictures.”
While the sign depicting the name and connections of legendary Triple Crown winner Secretariat has already been sold, there are still a few other signs for historic Triple Crown winners up for sale: Affirmed, Omaha, Gallant Fox, Whirlaway, War Admiral, Seattle Slew, Count Fleet, Citation, Sir Barton, and Assault.
