ITHACA, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s basketball team held on for a 54-51 win this evening at Ithaca.
Avery Eugster and Yechiel Stewart had 11 points apiece to highlight the RPI scoring.
The Engineers led 36-26 at halftime and ballooned the margin to as much as 15 in the second half before withstanding a furious comeback attempt from the Bombers.
RPI’s big advantage was evaporated by a 17-5 rally by the Ithaca, which cut the score down to one possession late in the second half.
The Bombers moved to within 54-51 with 3:42 to play, but that would be the last point of the game netted by either side.
Chuck Clemons and Dylan Matchett tallied nine and eight points, respectively, to help the Engineers earn the key Liberty League victory.
Matchett had a team-best six rebounds and Clemons grabbed five boards as well. Pat White also tallied five rebounds.
Up next, the Engineers begin a four-game home stand with Bard on Friday night.
