US superstar Keith Thurman calls out Tim Tszyu after obliterating Brock Jarvis in statement return

American superstar Keith Thurman has viciously kayoed Brock Jarvis – knocking him down twice in just the third round — to set up a potential Australian blockbuster against Tim Tszyu.

After three years out of the ring, Thurman didn’t need as many minutes to look every inch a future Hall of Famer as he battered Jarvis inside Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion – first, with a left uppercut and then, soon after, a left hook.

The emphatic TKO win means Thurman will almost certainly return Down Under in July to face Tszyu, so long as ‘The Soul Taker’ can win his own upcoming fight against US prospect Joey Spencer.

“I just raised the bar on you Tszyu,” shouted the American who was initially meant to headline against the Sydneysider early last year. “Send the contract, I’ll sign it”.

Asked about the finish of Jarvis, Thurman continued: “I was impressed he got up, but he was in a weakened state.

“I knew he was going to crumble like a domino … so I went hard.”

After dancing his way to the ring, Thurman started the fight strongly and, in an entertaining first round, caught Jarvis early with a straight right before, with 90 seconds remaining, the Shire boy exploded with a flurry of heavy body shots.

In the second, Jarvis also enjoyed some moments but the fight was already moving the American’s way. By the third, the man who has never lost to anyone not named Manny Pacquiao left no doubt.

Speaking after the fight, News Corp’s Peter Badel questioned whether pre-fight distractions, including the split with former cornerman Jeff Fenech, left Jarvis with little to no chance of winning.

“I’ve got to be critical of Brock Jarvis. Splitting from Jeff Fenech a month before this fight was just lunacy,” Badel said.

“To have someone of Jeff’s greatness, his intel and his experience — he would have settled Brock. I believe Brock defeated himself in many ways, he was beaten before he got to the ring. Having a former footballer in Curtis Scott in your corner was ridiculous. I just think he gave himself no chance.”

Tszyu, meanwhile, said it “seemed like there were too many distractions” for Jarvis in the lead-up to the fight.

“When you’re in camp you don’t need noise. You need to be solely focussed on what is ahead,” he added.
