NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men’s basketball team dropped a 69-57 decision to Hamilton College on Friday night in NESCAC action at Luce Field House.
In a game that was much closer than the final score would indicate, Hamilton outscored Conn 11-3 over the final 3:42 to pull away. Prior to the late swing, the visitors never led by more than six in the second half, and most of the stanza was played in a one-possession window.
Hank Morgan paced the Continentals with a game-high 27 points, 17 of which came in the second half. Connor Jenkins chipped in 11 points off the bench—including a key three that kicked off the final stretch—while Jalen Reese added 10.
Cam Schainfeld (Newton, Mass.) led the Camels with 16 points and four rebounds. Dylan Watson (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) tacked on 13 points and six boards while Edward Harrison (Charlottesville, Va.) netted 12 points off the bench.
After the Camels opened the scoring with an early three by RJ Casey (Nashville, Tenn.), the Continentals scored on their next two possessions and didn’t trail again in the half. Hamilton led by as many as nine in the stanza, but Conn battled back to slash the deficit to 32-28 by intermission.
Early in the second half, the Camels pulled even at 35-35 on a fast-break layup by Watson that resulted in a three-point play. Morgan responded immediately with a three on the other end, putting Hamilton back on top with one of his four treys on the night.
Conn kept it close over the next 10 minutes, cutting the deficit to one on three different occasions. The final time came with 7:14 to go when a pair of Schainfeld free throws made it a 52-51 game. The Continentals countered with six straight points to bump the lead to seven, and with 2:46 to go a three-point play by Morgan pushed the margin to double digits.
Hamilton (17-4 overall, 5-2 NESCAC) shot 55 percent from the field and went 9-for-18 from deep. Conn shot just under 41 percent and went 6-for-18 from downtown.
Conn (11-11 overall, 3-5 NESCAC) will next host Amherst College on Saturday, February 8 at 3:00 p.m.
