NEW LONDON, Conn. – The No. 20 Connecticut College men’s swimming and diving team wrapped up the regular season with a 210-70 victory over Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at Lott Natatorium.
The Camels dominated the day with 14 wins in 16 events and posted their largest margin of victory of the season. Justin Finkel (Cheshire, Conn.), Ian Sullivan (Naples, Fla.), Cam Bizjak (Willoughby, Ohio) and Ryan Karaca (Schenectady, N.Y.) each supplied a pair of victories as Conn picked up its second win of the weekend.
Conn got out to a commanding start, winning the first three events and building a 45-9 advantage. The team of Matthew Morris (Alexandria, Va.), Carrick Shea (Grafton, Mass.), Finkel and Nicholas Holovacs (Hingham, Mass.) got things started with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:33.79). Evan Lyons (Longmeadow, Mass.) then led a pack of four Camels in the 1,000 free (9:53.10) while Sullivan and Jack Mattison-Gulotta (Florence, Mass.) tied for the top spot in the 200 free (1:44.69).
Sullivan picked up his second win of the day in the 500 free (4:45.39) ahead of a pair of teammates. Finkel’s wins came in the 50 free (20.98) and 100 fly (48.68), and Karaca finished first in both the 200 fly (1:58.46) and 200 IM (1:57.74). Bizjak rounded out the group of two-time winners with the top scores in the 1M (247.20) and 3M (310.65) dives.
Shea picked up an individual win in the 100 breast (57.98) while Cooper Voss (Glen Ridge, N.J.) was the first of three Camels to finish atop the 100 free (48.59) standings. Morris also picked up a victory in the 200 back (1:55.35) to round out the individual winners.
Conn’s 200 free relay team of Finkel, Holovacs, Shea and Voss put a stamp on the meet, posting a time of 1:23.60 to beat Wesleyan’s top squad by more than four seconds.
Prior to the meet, the Camels honored four seniors—Finkel, Andrew Bartolomucci (Milford, N.H.), Sam Groleau (Gloucester, Mass.), and Liam Merrill (Glastonbury, Conn.)—in a special ceremony. The group competed in the final home meet of their four-year careers.
Conn will next compete at the NESCAC Championship on February 20-23 in Middlebury, Vt.
