Saturday
5:15 pm – G1 Cotillion at Parx Racing
Scottish Lassie and La Cara, winners of two-thirds of New York’s 3-year-old dirt filly G1s, face off in the Cotillion. G1 Acorn winner La Cara missed a planned start in the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks due to her barn being placed under a precautionary quarantine. Scottish Lassie led that race gate-to-wire in a romp.
Joining them are last-out stakes winners Indy Bay, Clicquot, and Dry Powder. Kentucky Oaks winner Good Cheer tries to get back to the winner’s circle after finishing fifth in the Acorn and second in the G1 Alabama.
5:36 pm – G3 Princess Rooney at Gulfstream Park
Trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. holds a strong hand in the Princess Rooney. He has four entered with Haulin Ice, Ultimate Authority, Claret Beret, and Mystic Lake, who will scratch and run in the Liberty Bell Stakes at Parx.
JR Ranch and MyRacehorse’s Reputation has won three of four starts this year, including the Tyson Gilpin Stakes at Colonial Downs last out by 6 ¾ lengths.
6:00 pm – G1 Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing
Top 3-year-olds Baeza and Gosger lead the 10-horse Pennsylvania Derby, the final G1 for their age group on Saturday.
Last seen finishing third in the G1 Travers, Magnitude will need to return to the form he showed earlier this season. Other familiar names include G1 Haskell Stakes third Goal Oriented, and G2 Jim Dandy Stakes fourth Mo Plex.
Wathan Racing’s David of Athens is the race’s wildcard; he will make just his fourth career start in the Pennsylvania Derby. He beat multiple G1-winning sprinter Patch Adams on debut as a 2-year-old. Last out, he won a one-mile allowance at Ellis Park by 7 ¼ lengths on the front end.
